My name is Elyssa and I live in Westminster, MD.
My husband and I have been the Children’s Pastors at our church since June of 2013, and it has definitely been a fun learning experience! I’ve often spent time browsing the internet for ideas for lessons, crafts, and games, so I thought I would create a place to share what works (and sometimes what doesn’t work) for us.
We have recently become a multi-campus church, which adds its own set of challenges. One campus is in a traditional church building, while the other is in a movie theater!
In our kids program we have three nursery classes: babies, toddlers, and preschool. (Our movie theater campus just has a babies and preschool class for now.) Our elementary school program (K-5th) is usually a large group setting. We also have a class for our preteens (4th and 5th graders) called Hightide that breaks off after welcome and worship for their own time of study.
Each Sunday we have three service times that offer kids programming: 9:30 and 11:15 at our church campus and 9:37 at the movie theater. We typically do the same lesson for all services, and often have other volunteers assist or teach the lesson for the week.
Children’s ministry is awesome… even if it sometimes means taking a pie to the face at VBS!
